Managing Network Traffic
About the Project
Given the scale and complexity of the internet, congestion control has always been an important research area. We continue to study ways to ensure optimal network performance. In 2016, Google introduced the bottleneck bandwidth and round-trip time (BBR) congestion control algorithm, an idea based on Dr. Kleinrock’s research that identified the optimal operating point with the Power function concept. To further analyze BBR and better design congestion control to dynamically reach that optimal point, The Connection Lab is investigating the relationship between the Power function and congestion control and studying the interaction between multiple flows. A recent paper from our laboratory pointed ways to expand these ideas.
